Beauty Will Save the World: Ewa Chrusciel, Jeff Friedman, and Ivy Schweitzer In-Person / Online

Join poets Ewa Chrusciel, Jeff Friedman, and Ivy Schweitzer for a reading of their poems, discussion, and Q&A.

This is a hybrid event.  It will be held in person in the Mayer Room and online via Zoom (the Zoom registration link is below). There is no registration requirement to attend in person. 

 

Ewa Chrusciel is a poet, translator, and educator. She has four books of poems in English: Yours, Purple Gallinule (Omnidawn 2022), Of Annunciations (Omnidawn 2017), Contraband of Hoopoe (Omnidawn 2014), Strata (Emergency Press 2009, reprinted by Omnidawn, April 2018), as well as three books in Polish: Tobołek (2016) Sopiłki (2009), and Furkot (2003). Her book Contraband of Hoopoe was translated into Italian by Anna Aresi and came out in Italy with Edizioni Ensemble in May 2019. In her work, Ewa explores themes such as eco-poetics, exile, and migration. Her poems have been included in curricula at institutions such as Harvard University, University of Wisconsin, and Salem State University. Jeff Friedman’s tenth book, Ashes in Paradise, was published by Madhat Press in fall 2023. He is the author of nine previous collections of poetry and prose, including The Marksman (Carnegie Mellon University, 2020), Floating Tales (Plume Editions/Madhat Press, 2017), and Pretenders (Carnegie Mellon University Press, 2014). Friedman’s poems, mini stories and translations have appeared in American Poetry Review, Poetry, New England Review, Poetry International, The New Republic, and numerous other literary magazines and anthologies. Friedman has received numerous awards and prizes, including a National Endowment Literature Translation Fellowship in 2016 (with Dzvinia Orlowsky) and two individual Artist Grants from New Hampshire Arts Council. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Ivy Schweitzer has lived for many years in Vermont and taught English and Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Dartmouth College. She has published poetry in Birchsong: Poetry Centered in Vermont, The Glass Seed Annual, Solidus 3, Antiphon, Clear Poetry and in several issues of Bloodroot Literary Magazine. Most recently, her poems have appeared in the Passager Poetry Contest for 2022, Ritualwell, Tikkun, New Croton Review, Mississippi Review, and Spoon River Poetry Review. She is the creator of White Heat: Emily Dickinson in 1862, a weekly blog. A collection of poems titled Within Flesh: In Conversation with Our Selves and Emily Dickinson, co-written with Al Salehi, will be published in February 2024. https://sites.dartmouth.edu/ivyschweitzer/
