Wolves, Humans, and Keystone Species

Wolves, Humans, and Keystone Species In-Person / Online

We welcome you to join Ronan Donovan, a conservation photographer, filmmaker, wildlife biologist, and Storytelling Fellow for the National Geographic Society for a visual discussion about his work with wolves, predators, their close proximity to humans and their effects on biodiversity and our shared ecosystems.

This presentation will be an opportunity to learn and ask questions about the role wolves and predators play in balancing our forest ecosystems in the midst of climate change. Ronan has expanded his storytelling skills beyond wildlife stories. “Conservation in the modern world is an evolving human journey where we're in the midst of finding our place in the more than human world.” We will also look at the complex relationship between humans and wolves through the wolf experience in two regions of North America – The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and the Canadian High Arctic. This program is co-sponsored by the Hanover Conservation Commission, the Howe Library and the Hanover Biodiversity Committee. It is hybrid - join us in person in the Mayer Room or online via Zoom. No registration is required in person; register for the Zoom invitation here.

Born and raised in Norwich Vermont, Ronan Donovan is a field biologist turned visual storyteller who strives to create imagery that brings curiosity and awe to scientific papers. “I like to think that I add heartbeats to data points,” says Ronan. “My visual work surrounds the human relationships with our fellow social mammals - wolves, chimpanzees, and mountain gorillas. The work is mission driven, using photos and video to highlight conservation issues helping re-frame some of the stuck narratives around modern humans and the more than human world.” He now lives in Montana. https://www.ronandonovan.com/
