Introduction to Copperplate Calligraphy (2-day workshop) In-Person
Learn about the elegant pointed-pen Copperplate hand (also known as English Roundhand) with instructor, Laura Di Piazza.
Copperplate is similar to the script that the body of the US Declaration of Independence was inscribed in. Copperplate was developed in 16th century Europe and became widely used in the 19th century. Calligraphy, like many other no/low tech crafts, is making a huge comeback, as can be seen by the nearly 22M tags of #calligraphy on Instagram. Copperplate is a beautiful and slowly inscribed hand that’s constructed stroke by connecting stroke and by applying varying pressure to the nib.
You'll learn skills and techniques including:
- Letter with varying amounts of pressure to produce hairline and bold strokes
- Practice traditional copperplate letterforms
- Learn how to letter using a pointed pen nib, oblique pen holder, and Ink
- Overview of guidelines/guidesheets, and centering your lettering
All supplies will be provided, free of charge, to registered participants.
This is a two-part workshop. The first session is Wednesday, September 18th and the second session is Wednesday, September 25th. When you register below you're registering for both sessions.
