Sherlock Holmes Club of the Upper Valley: Dr. Watson and his war at the edge of empire - A thorny and untrimmed hedge beyond the Indus

Sherlock Holmes Club of the Upper Valley: Dr. Watson and his war at the edge of empire - A thorny and untrimmed hedge beyond the Indus In-Person

This presentation given by Gary D. Johnson, a retired Dartmouth educator/geologist. He directed long-term research programs in Pakistan and India, East Africa, New England, and elsewhere, and is a specialist in rock systems deposited during periods of significant
paleontological, environmental, and tectonic change. Apropos the brief personal history of Dr. John Watson found in the Sherlock Holmes storyline, Gary’s nearly 30 years of research in north India and Pakistan, much of which was primarily based from Peshawar, may bring some added insight into Arthur Conan Doyle’s portrayal of Watson’s wartime adventures in the Afghan borderlands and beyond.
