Inua Ellams: The Half-God of Rainfall

Inua Ellams: The Half-God of Rainfall In-Person / Online

Join Nigerian-born British poet, playwright and performer Inua Ellams for a reading from his epic poem, The Half-God of Rainfall. The discussion will be moderated by Anaiis Cisco, filmmaker and Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Film and Media Studies at Dartmouth College.

This is a hybrid event: it will take place in in the Mayer Room or online via Zoom. No registration required in person; register for Zoom here.

Inua Ellams, Visiting Artist at the Hopkins Center, will be reading from The Half-God of Rainfall: A World-Beating Exploration of Mythology, Power and Sport. Come see him in advance of his performances of his work Search Party at the Hopkins Center over the weekend!

The New York TImes calls The Half-God of Rainfall "a melodious, sky-high tale of a basketball superstar born as a resut of a celestial contest between the Greek and Yoruba gods of thunder, Zeus and Sango."

Born in Nigeria, Inua Ellams is a poet, playwright & performer, graphic artist & designer and founder of: The Midnight Run (an arts-filled, night-time, urban walking experience.), The Rhythm and Poetry Party (The R.A.P Party) which celebrates poetry & hip hop, and Poetry + Film / Hack (P+F/H) which celebrates Poetry and Film. Identity, Displacement & Destiny are reoccurring themes in his work, where he tries to mix the old with the new: traditional African oral storytelling with contemporary poetics, paint with pixel, texture with vector. His books are published by Flipped Eye, Akashic, Nine Arches, Penned In The Margins, Oberon & Methuen.

Anaiis Cisco is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Film and Media Studies at Dartmouth College and the Phyllis Cohen Rappaport '68 New Century Term Professor of Film and Media Studies at Smith College.
