Howe Fall Writing Workshops: Poetry with Marjorie Moorhead

Howe Fall Writing Workshops: Poetry with Marjorie Moorhead In-Person / Online

Poet Marjorie Moorhead will offer three poetry writing workshops in the first weeks of October, November, and December. These will take place 5:30-7:00pm in the Aldrich Room behind the New Books area. Registration is required. You may attend any or all of these workshops, but they must be registered for separately (scroll down to register). These workshops will be offered hybrid: you may attend in person or online (Zoom registrations will be sent to participants before each workshop). Email Jared Jenisch at jared.jenisch@thehowe.org with any questions.

Format: We will listen to a number of poems about a specific subject, then do timed free-writing, prompted by what we’ve heard. Some sharing, and expression of what we enjoy from prompt results will be optional.

The themes for the three meetings will be

Tuesday October 7: Family. How do we write about the people in our lives who comprise family, in all the ways we might choose to define it.

Wednesday November 5:  Animals. How do we write about animals in our lives—companion/symbol/metaphor.

Tuesday December 2: Love. What makes a love poem powerful/unforgettable. Who/what do we write our love to/for.

Facilitator: Marjorie Moorhead is author of several poetry books, most recently, Into the Thrum (2025). Her work is shared in online and print journals as well as twenty anthologies to date, including The Wonder of Small Things (James Crews ed.) Locally, she is a member of 4th Friday Poets.
