SUMMARY:Winter Film Series: The Right To Read
DESCRIPTION:Join us on second Sundays from January through May for our
Winter Film Series. Each month we will screen a different film or
documentary chosen by a librarian. After each screening\, stay for
 discussion where we’ll explore the film’s themes\, context\, and
 relevance. Whether you're a cinephile\, a curious mind\, or simply looking
for a cozy afternoon with good conversation\, all are welcome!\n\n\nThis
month we're screening: The Right to Read\n\nProduced by LeVar Burton\, this
documentary explores what NAACP activist Kareem Weaver deems the paramount
civil rights issue of our era: childhood literacy. Weaver embarks on a
mission to uplift low reading scores in his hometown of Oakland\,
California. Through personal anecdotes from Weaver\, insights from a
dedicated teacher\, and narratives of two American families\, 'THE RIGHT TO
READ' delves deep into the battle to equip our youngest generation with the
fundamental skill essential for lifelong success: the ability to
 read.\n\nRuntime: 80 minutes
