Reading Upwards: How to Live a Good Life: A Guide to Choosing Your Personal Philosophy In-Person / Online
Hybrid Program: Online and In Person
Join us for Reading Upwards!: A book group about living, meaning, and belonging. Reading Upwards meets the third Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. You don’t have to read the entire book to attend! Spend some time with it, see what speaks to you and what doesn’t, and come share your thoughts. Books can be checked out by any Upper Valley resident.
This month we'll be reading How to Live a Good Life: A Guide to Choosing Your Personal Philosophy, a collection of essays by 15 philosophers, edited by Massimo Pigliucci. This will be our last meeting before taking a break over the summer.
"This thought-provoking, wide-ranging collection brings together essays by fifteen leading philosophers reflecting on what it means to live according to a philosophy of life. From Eastern philosophies (Daoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism) and classical Western philosophies (such as Aristotelianism and Stoicism), to the four major religions, as well as contemporary philosophies (such as existentialism and effective altruism), each contributor offers a lively, personal account of how they find meaning in the practice of their chosen philosophical tradition."
Please contact jared.jenisch@thehowe.org if you would like a Zoom invitation, or attend in person in the Aldrich Room (behind the New Books area on the main floor).
