DESCRIPTION:This event has been postponed and will take place on Sunday\, 
 February 22nd. We apologize for the inconvenience.  \n\n \n\nJoin us on 
 second Sundays from January through May for our Winter Film Series. Each 
 month we will screen a different film or documentary chosen by a librarian. 
 After each screening\, stay for discussion where we’ll explore the 
 film’s themes\, context\, and relevance. Whether you're a cinephile\, a 
 curious mind\, or simply looking for a cozy afternoon with good 
 conversation\, all are welcome!\n\n\nThis month we're screening: Karuara\, 
 People of the River\n\nThe Karuara and the old ways are in danger of being 
 forgotten. Mari Luz says her people face cultural genocide. While foreign 
 companies earn millions from the Amazon’s resources\, indigenous 
 communities lack basic development like schools\, health care and clean 
 water. She formed the Kukama Women’s Federation to fight back. We follow 
 her valiant struggle to protect her people\, river and the vibrant spirit 
 world below.\n\nKaruara\, People of the River will remind viewers that each 
 river\, lake and stream is sacred and that our planet’s fragile water 
 resources must be protected.\n\nThis artistically beautiful film has won 12 
 awards\, including the LASA award of merit in film\, the UNESCO Dolomites 
 award at the Bolzano film festival and the WACC-SIGNIS Human Rights award. 
 Mariluz Canaquiri\, who is also one of the film’s producers\, was awarded 
 the prestigious Goldman Environmental Prize for Latin America in
